St Congan’s Scottish Episcopal Church,
GIFT DAY, Whit Sunday 24th May 2015
To: Members and all friends of St Congan’s Church Turriff
There have been a number of exciting developments recently in the life of St. Congan’s, and we would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continuing support of the ministry of St Congan’s Scottish Episcopal Church in Turriff. The encouragement of the community in the work of St Congan’s has been very heartening.
We have hosted this year’s ‘Thinking Day Service’ which was well attended by Turriff’s youth organisations; and we have also hosted the ‘World Day of Prayer’ and the ‘Christian Aid’ services, securing welcome donations to support both organisations, after which those attending enjoyed tea/coffee, home bakes and fellowship. We support the Turriff food bank, and we also share the use of the church building with the local Polish Roman Catholic Church community, who hold a weekly service at St Congan’s on Sunday evenings.
Our plans for the re-ordering of the back of the church, which include a new ramp and entrance to improve accessibility, an enlarged social area with improved refreshment facilities, and an accessible toilet, have now been approved by the Planning Authorities and received building warrant approval. It is now time to plan and execute the works.
The trees in the churchyard have all been examined by Tree Surgeons and the appropriate action taken to ensure the safety of those visiting or attending the Church.
Our heating boiler is beginning to show its age and we are looking to replace it with a more modern installation, before the next winter season, to avoid the congregation suffering hypothermia!
These improvements, and ongoing maintenance, will ensure that the church building continues to be available to support our weekly worship and those life cycle events of community involvement including baptism, confirmation, weddings and inevitably, funerals – but it comes at a cost.
This coming Sunday – Whit Sunday (The Feast of Pentecost) is the date of our GIFT DAY; it is vitally important that we all support financially the work of St Congan’s in the community. You do not need us to tell you how expensive things have become – running and maintaining a church is no different. We all need to give realistically of our time, talents, and money. Could we ask you to consider what you can give as your thanksgiving offering?
Please bring your gift with you to the Church service on Whit Sunday (Pentecost) or send it to either of us at the addresses below. Please indicate if you would like us to claim Gift Aid.
We wish every blessing on you and your family,
Mary Murray, Lay Reader, and David Henson, Treasurer
